about

I wrote this while fooling around with a 'Spider Capo' that lets you capo strings individually rather than all or nothing – so it's a bit like an open tuning. Out tumbled this sentimental love song. It was so easy. then I spent a year workshopping the lyrics. That was a bit harder. But nothing's as hard as playing a piano accordion.

lyrics

I remember walking up that wooden staircase
Wondering what I'd find
But I can't remember what living was like
Before that day, the day I found you

It was so easy to forget
And I remember waking on a sunny morning
Wondering what I'd found
But I can't remember what I did
For the rest of that day, the day I found you

It was so easy to forget
Like the journey home with the Golden Ticket
Like the shadow of the warmest sun

I thought I'd seen everything, and there was nothing new
I thought I'd loved everyone I could love

Oh I remember driving through the desert
Wondering what I'd got myself into
And I can't remember anything bad about
Six days driving in the heat in an old car

It was so easy to be with you, Like being at a beautiful place
It's so easy to be with you, Like coming home from some journey
Like finding a place for my soul

Oh I remember wondering when I'd wake up
From the most beautiful dream
And I can't remember any other time
When I was walking on air with my feet on the ground

It’s so beautiful to be with you
Like listening to my favourite music
Yeah it's so beautiful to be with with you
Like finding a sweet melody
Like discovering a brand new song

Yeah it's so beautiful to be with you
And it's so peaceful
it's so perfect to be with you
And it's so easy, yeah it's so easy

I remember walking up that wooden staircase
Wondering what I'd find
